Why Does the Earth SPIN? 

why does the earth spin to give us a

daytime and a nighttime first of all, we

need to know that pretty much everything

in the solar system spins and more

importantly the majority of things are

spinning in the same direction if you

momentum it must have a mass and it must

have a velocity momentum can be

demonstrated using a tennis racket in a

tennis ball think about the individual atoms in the

cloud of hydrogen each particle has its

own momentum because it is moving and

has a mass as these atoms start to move?

towards the center of gravity, they need

to average out their momentum to

conserve it by doing this the momentum

tries to reach zero which will most

likely never happen this is because of a

momentum of zero means the atom would

stop moving completely this means there

is some momentum leftover after the

averaging process which caused a spin

but not only that spinning gets faster

and faster

I mean as the figure skater pulls

her arms in she spins faster and faster this is the

conservation of angular momentum at work

as the solar system spin faster the

cloud of hydrogen flattened out into a

disc with the bulge in the middle this

the bulge is where the Sun was formed the

the same thing happens with the formation of

the earth in the disk around the Sun

here is the disk I talked about with the

Sun in the center particles bits of dust

rock and things even are attracted to a

certain area because of gravity while

spinning which forms planets eventually

moons such as ours are formed by bigger

rocks or asteroids colliding with the

newly formed planet breaking a huge

piece of rock off big enough to have its

own gravity like our moon

when the moon formed it did have a spin

to it as the earth does but since it is

so small compared to earth Earth's

gravity tugged on the moon spin walking

planets have formed the sun's powerful

radiation in solar winds cleared out

everything left over in the disk which

is why there is no dust in our solar

system and everything is clear without

any unbalanced forces acting on them the

the inertia of the Sun and the planets have

kept them spinning for billions of years

in conclusion the earth spins because of it

is formed in the accretion disk of a

cloud of hydrogen that collapsed down

from mutual gravity and needed to

conserve its angular momentum it

continues to spin because of inertia and

the reason why it is all in the same

direction is because of they all form

together in the same solar nebula

billions of years ago and it just so

happens that one whole 360-degree spin

on earth takes 24 hours this has been
